“This is less about Auburn and more about Akron, who is legitimately one of the worst teams in FBS. This is also about the COVID issues that seemingly are creeping out of Akron's camp that will affect their ability to field much depth on Coach Dye's field. I expect limited carries from Tank & Shaun, and that we see some positive signs from an offensive line that shows more than anything that they block smarter than we've seen in quite a while. Wouldn't be surprised by a special teams and/or defensive score in this one as well. All in, it should be a nice opening night for Bryan Harsin's first game as Auburn's head coach, and barring injury, should give the Tigers some helpful insight into how this group has developed since he first stepped foot on campus.
More than anything, this is an opportunity to see if Bo Nix has improved his footwork in a glorified exhibition game, or if when there's pressure on him that he hurries his decision making. We won't fully know what progress he's made probably until we head to Baton Rouge, but a real, live game against competition needs to yield signs of hope for the third year QB. While this team is likely to go only as far as the defense and ground game will take them, a Bo Nix who doesn't put Auburn's offense in precarious situations early in the season can yield confidence that might result in a victory that will be much needed come October and beyond. ”
